If you’re a driver in Montreal, Quebec or any other city / town in Quebec province, be sure to equip yourself with a set of winter tires. New law passed by Quebec government last year takes effect on Dec 15, 2008.

The Quebec National Assembly passed the law last year mandating all vehicles must be equipped with winter tires from Dec. 15 to March 15. This is the first year the regulation takes effect and ignoring it can earn a minimum $200 fine plus demerit points. - The Canadian Press

According to the article by Canadian press the law has already created a shortage of winter tires in Quebec and is affecting other provinces. The legislation hopes to minimize winter relates accidents, which surpass averages in comparison to summer/fall/spring seasons.

Set of winter tires costs $500 - $800 with taxes and installation. If you live in Montreal and rely on all-season rubber, you’ll feel the difference in stability and will never go back to all-season, even if Quebec cancels the law.

The Law is Creating Shortages in Other Provinces

The law has already affected other provinces, as in Toronto it was hard to find Michelin winter tires anywhere but in Canadian Tire, which tends to be more expensive that smaller tire shops. Manufacturers are forced to cut supply from other provinces, as this is their chance to make most money.

Montreal limousine is in the process of switching rubber on all our limousines and will be ready by Dec 15th to provide save and smooth experience.

Be sure to switch to all season tires after winter because winter rubber burns fast in the summer time.
