Tam - Tams Montreal Mont Royal

Posted In: Events by Limo Team

Every sunday (summer) Mont Royal hosts Tam - Tams, where Montrealers and visitors play the drums, dance and lay of the grass. Dozens of tam tam players perform at the same time, drumming rhythms and encouraging other to join.

In addition to drumming, Tam Tam also hosts medieval battles with fake swords and foam padded weapons.

Tam Tam is very open to marijuana use, even with the presence of some police authorities on particularly big events.

Every summer Montreal hosts annual fireworks competition called “L’International des Feux Loto-Quebec”. Started in 1985, it is now the world’s largest fireworks competition of its kind, awarding golden, silver and bronze Jupiter Trophies to participants, which have become very prestigious in the pyrotechnitians community. The main sponsor of the show is Lotto Quebec, thus the official name reflects it.

Approximately 6,000,000 fireworks set off on each show for 30 minutes, making crowds stop and look up to the sky. Everyone is invited to watch the show for free at the Montreal Old Port, or pay an admission of $26.54 to $49.61 dollars to La Ronde, which will take you up close to the action, where the judges reside.

All shows are scheduled at 10 p.m. closing Jacques-Cartier Bridge from 8 pm to midnight.

The competition takes form of bi-weekly performances by teams from different countries. All the fireworks are synchronized to music, which boasts from over 50 speakers with a total power of 100,000 watts.

Just for laughs continues to make Montreal laugh through the month of July. If you did not catch this event, its time to!

Tomorrow Just for Laughs is kicking off my favorite performance – The Nasty Show. This one is not for everybody, as it is packed with more than an hour of profanity, offensive statements, dark sarcasm, and things we not dare mention on public. This is why I love it, and thousands of people around the world. We like to hear what we can’t say out in the public, especially when its hilariously wrapped up by the best comedians in the world.

Here’s a reminder from the official website: if you’re easily offended, you’re f***ed.

Toronto event will be double the size when it opens on the 15th, which will stretch performers from Montreal.

“We’re not going in there and blindly booking some package show in each territory and pray it works,” Hills said. “It’s very much finessed to the marketplace.” – The founder perfectly understands the fact that different countries have different take on humor, and plans on catering to that.

The event takes place in the surrounding area of the intersection St. Urban and St Catherine, going over to St. Laurent street. City of Montreal has closed off this area to traffic, so crowds can roam free.

I visited the festival myself on July 1st and it is very lively. The area is crowded with people, while there are over 5 stages with performers playing simultaneously, as well as at different times. Artists are world class, as well as local performers. There are a number of small tents in the area which sell alcohol, food and Jazz souvenirs. If you’re a Montrealer or visiting Montreal don’t miss this festival.
