Make a Wonderful Present to Your Loved One on His or Her Birthday
Wednesday’s note read: “Your 50th Birthday Party — this Saturday — 6:30 p.m. — Destination Unknown — Don’t worry, you’ll be among friends.”
Thursday’s note read: “Don’t forget — Saturday 6:30 — You really don’t have anything to worry about.”
Friday’s note read: “Don’t forget — Saturday 6:30 — Well, maybe you should worry just a little.”
Saturday’s note read: “Be ready at 6:30 — Now it’s time to worry!”
I wasn’t really thinking ahead when my friends began to turn 50 and I was always an instigator in what we should do to/for them. At the time I hadn’t realized that I was one of the last ones to have that fateful birthday.
So as Saturday arrived, I was a little bit anxious to say the least.
I could get absolutely no information from anyone. All friends and family were refusing to divulge any information about the evening’s activities.
At 6:30 p.m., my phone rang with someone telling me to head down the driveway.
As I headed out the back door, I saw a black and white Excursion limousine coming down the street. It was filled with some of my very best friends in the world who were seated on the leopard covered seats — I loved it! What a terrific surprise!
Then, out came the red hat and purple feather boa for me to wear, and we were on our way.
They wouldn’t tell me where we were going. I was distracted by reading birthday cards and opening old-age gag gifts and sharing them with my friends.
We ended up at the Bourbon Mall outside of Leland.
There were some photos of me from my younger years. Some of them were not too flattering. I knew they had gotten them from my mama. I could not believe she turned on me!
We all had a wonderful time, and I must say they were very kind to me in my old age. I guess a picture speaks a thousand words.

Limo driver wins a million
Astoria limo driver Marcos Penteado could not believe his eyes when he saw the $1 million symbol printed on his “$500,000,000 Extravaganza” scratch-off ticket. For a few seconds he stood frozen at the counter of the grocery store on 36-20 30th Avenue, just staring at the ticket…..“I buy two tickets every Wednesday - payday - like clockwork, and always this one Penteado said…..”
The 57-year-old driver explained he has been doing so for 14 years, since he emigrated to New York from Brazil. - Queens Courier
